Tottenham Signs Martin Dubravka as Goalkeeping Market Heats Up
Tottenham have moved first in what promises to be a busy summer for goalkeepers, officially announcing the arrival of Martin Dubravka on a free transfer.
The former Newcastle United and Burnley stopper will head to north London when his contract with the Clarets expires at the end of the month, adding experience and depth to Spurs’ goalkeeping department.
For Dubravka, it is a late-career leap into the spotlight.
"It's an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family," he said. "I'm looking forward to it.
"Everything moved pretty quickly and I'm really happy to be here. I've loved watching Roberto's teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.
"Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and I can't wait to meet everyone and get started."
Spurs get a proven Premier League goalkeeper, a steady pair of hands who has seen most things this league can throw at a player. Dubravka gets one more shot at the sharp end of English football. The deal suits both.
United circle Darlow and Johnstone as reshuffle looms
While Tottenham have acted decisively, Manchester United are still weighing up their options.
According to The Mirror, the club are considering moves for Karl Darlow and Sam Johnstone as Michael Carrick looks to reinforce his goalkeeping group behind Senne Lammens. United want reliable cover, not a headline-grabbing No 1, and both names fit that brief: seasoned, homegrown, and battle-tested in English football.
The situation around Radek Vitek only sharpens the need. As previously reported, the young goalkeeper could leave Old Trafford this summer, with all three promoted clubs thought to be keen. If Vitek moves on in search of regular minutes, United’s depth chart suddenly looks thin. Hence the interest. Hence the urgency.
Everton test West Ham’s resolve over Bowen
At the other end of the pitch, Everton are pushing into ambitious territory.
Football Insider report that the Merseyside club have contacted West Ham to discuss a potential move for Jarrod Bowen, a player who has been one of the Hammers’ few consistent bright sparks in recent seasons.
Relegation to the Championship has changed the landscape at the London Stadium. Bowen has been tipped to leave, and his next decision will say a lot about his ambitions. It is claimed the winger wants to assess offers from different clubs before deciding on his immediate future.
For Everton, fresh attacking quality is a necessity, not a luxury. For Bowen, the question is simple: stay and lead a promotion charge, or step straight back into the Premier League spotlight?
Villa dig in over Rogers as elite queue forms
If some clubs are open for business, Aston Villa are slamming the door shut.
Sky Sports report that Villa have told Arsenal and other interested sides that Morgan Rogers is not for sale. Not now. Not at this stage of their project.
Rogers has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium before next season, his versatility and creativity catching the eye of Mikel Arteta. Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in the playmaker over the coming weeks.
That is serious company, serious pressure. Villa’s stance, then, is a statement. They believe Rogers is central to what comes next under Unai Emery and are prepared to resist some of the biggest names in Europe to keep him.
Forest turn to Brazil for next No 1
Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are casting their net further afield.
Globo Esporte report that Cruzeiro goalkeeper Otavio has emerged as a target, with the Reds preparing to firm up their interest in the 20-year-old with an official offer.
Forest are said to be willing to put around £11m on the table. Whether that figure tempts Cruzeiro remains unclear, but the intent is obvious: they want a young, high-upside goalkeeper to grow with the club.
It is a familiar path for Premier League sides, dipping into the Brazilian market for talent before prices spiral. For Otavio, a move to England at 20 would be a huge step. For Forest, it would be a calculated gamble on potential rather than a safe, veteran option.
United line up £35m move for Anton
Back at Old Trafford, the rebuild is not limited to the goalkeeping department.
German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten report that Manchester United are preparing a £35m bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton, with Michael Carrick giving the green light for the move.
Anton, currently representing Germany at the World Cup, is under contract at Dortmund until the summer of 2028. That length of deal hands the Bundesliga club strong leverage in negotiations and explains the size of the proposed fee.
United’s interest is clear: a World Cup-level defender, in his prime years, with the pedigree of regular football at one of Europe’s most demanding clubs. Dortmund’s position is equally straightforward. They hold a long contract and a valuable asset in a seller’s market.
From Dubravka’s move to Spurs to United’s double-track pursuit of a goalkeeper and a centre-back, from Everton’s bold enquiry for Bowen to Villa’s hard line on Rogers and Forest’s push for Otavio, the pattern is emerging.
This is not a quiet window. And with the first deals already falling into place, the real question is who blinks next.
