Bournemouth have drawn a clear line in the sand over Alex Scott. The midfielder has rejected a lucrative new contract, but the club’s stance has not budged an inch: he is not for sale this summer.

Scott, 22, has turned down the latest offer on the table – a deal that would have significantly increased his salary and included a release clause – yet Bournemouth insist it changes nothing about their plans. They see him as a cornerstone of the project, not a tradeable asset.

A breakout season has changed Scott’s profile and the temperature around his future. His performances last year didn’t just steady Bournemouth’s midfield; they elevated him into the conversation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents. That form earned him a place in England’s pre-World Cup squad and, with it, the kind of attention that never stays quiet for long.

United tested Bournemouth’s resolve first. Bournemouth have not even put a valuation on Scott for one simple reason: they do not intend to sell him. Not now, not in this window.

Behind the scenes, the club had hoped their latest contract proposal would lock in his future on their terms. The package included a major wage rise and, crucially, a release clause modelled on the agreement that smoothed Antoine Semenyo’s path last year – a compromise that could have given Scott a clear route to a big move further down the line.

Scott has turned it down. Even so, there is no sense of panic in Dorset. Bournemouth expect talks to resume at some stage and believe time remains on their side. The midfielder still has two years left on his current deal, and the hierarchy are confident they can keep him at the heart of Marco Rose’s plans while they continue to build a team around him.

For the clubs circling, the landscape is becoming more hostile by the week. The Premier League market for elite young English players has exploded. Recent deals for Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers have reset the bar, pushing fees for top domestic prospects into previously unthinkable territory.

Bournemouth are realistic enough to know Scott would not command the £117m Chelsea have agreed to pay Aston Villa for Rogers, but internally they now see his value creeping towards nine figures. When that belief is paired with a flat refusal to negotiate, the result is a near-impregnable position.

United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea remain admirers, watching and waiting. For now, though, Bournemouth’s stance is as clear as it gets: contract talks can roll on in the background, but Alex Scott is going nowhere this summer.
