PSG Focus on Maghnes Akliouche Instead of Michael Olise
Paris Saint-Germain have made their choice. Michael Olise will not be part of their summer rebuild. Instead, the French champions are pushing hard for a player they believe could be the next big attacking jewel rather than one already priced like a finished article.
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Olise set the tone for this window. Their interest was loud, deliberate and public, a signal to the market that they were prepared to fight for one of the most sought-after attacking talents around. When Bayern Munich won that race, it looked like the saga had reached its natural conclusion.
In Paris, though, it sparked a different debate. Why didn’t PSG join the bidding war for a French star in his prime?
According to a report in L’Équipe, the answer is simple: strategy. The club hierarchy, via a source quoted in the piece, are said to be focused on finding “the next Michael Olise,” not paying a premium for the current one.
Akliouche Deal in the Home Straight
That philosophy has a name attached to it: Maghnes Akliouche.
The Monaco attacker is identified in the same report as a priority target, and the deal is described as being “in its final stages.” There is, crucially, said to be a “three way desire to complete the deal quickly” – player, selling club and PSG all aligned to get it done.
For PSG, Akliouche fits the new line of thinking. Young, French, technically sharp, and still on the ascent. A player they can help shape rather than one they must reshape a squad around.
There is also the matter of balance. Internally, the club are wary of disrupting the attacking chemistry already built under Luis Enrique. The frontline has been recalibrated since the departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar and, most recently, Kylian Mbappé. Dropping an ultra-expensive, ball-dominant star into that mix would carry risk.
The numbers around Olise only deepen that caution. Bayern’s expected demands are described inside the club as “insane,” and the idea of entering that auction was reportedly branded a “nightmare.” PSG, for once, are choosing restraint over spectacle.
Pressure from Germany and England
While PSG move towards Akliouche, they are fighting to keep hold of other wide talents.
Yan Diomande, another winger on their radar, now looks to be slipping away. RB Leipzig are ramping up efforts to secure him on a new contract, tightening their grip just as PSG hoped to tempt him towards Paris. The German club’s track record with developing attacking prospects gives them a powerful selling point.
There is also interest in one of PSG’s own youngsters. Manchester City and two unnamed German clubs are pushing to convince a highly rated PSG starlet to leave the Parc des Princes and continue his development abroad. PSG, for their part, want to keep him and are working to resist those advances.
It all points in the same direction. Paris are still in the market for flair and imagination, but on their terms: younger profiles, controlled costs, and room to grow. The Olise train has left the station. The question now is whether Akliouche and the next wave of prospects can carry PSG where the finished products could not.
