Newcastle United Reinforces Squad with Toure Signing
Newcastle United are wasting no time reinvesting the Sandro Tonali windfall. According to The Telegraph, the club have struck a €50m (£42.8m) agreement with Hoffenheim for winger Bazoumana Toure, lined up as a direct replacement for Anthony Gordon.
Toure is expected to sign a long-term contract and undergo his medical this week, a rapid move that underlines Newcastle’s refusal to let Gordon’s departure define their summer. Lose one key wide man, buy another, keep the project rolling. That’s the message from St James’ Park.
United’s midfield hunt widens as Tchouameni saga twists
Manchester United’s search for a new midfielder is starting to look like a full-scale reshaping of their engine room.
They missed out on Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham, but that hasn’t slowed the recruitment drive. As reported by the Daily Mail, United are tracking three names alongside primary target Aurelien Tchouameni: Alex Scott, Tyler Adams and Felix Nmecha.
Scott has surged to the top of the list. Old Trafford decision-makers are described as big admirers of the Bournemouth midfielder, whose blend of control, bite and Premier League experience fits the profile United have been chasing for years.
There is a problem. Arsenal are also in the race, and the price is climbing. The 22-year-old is now thought to be valued above the original £60m mark, inflated by the recent big-money moves for Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson. Every major midfield deal this summer seems to drag the market higher, and Scott is riding that wave.
The pursuit of Tchouameni, though, is where United’s plans could be thrown off course.
Camavinga talks hand City leverage over Tchouameni
In Spain, MARCA report that Eduardo Camavinga has become the subject of direct talks between Real Madrid and Manchester City in recent hours. City are said to be “evaluating the possibility of incorporating” the 23-year-old as Enzo Maresca pushes for another midfield signing after agreeing a deal for Elliot Anderson.
Camavinga wants to stay in Madrid and prove his worth. That is his stance for now. But if that position softens and he moves to the Etihad, the domino effect could be brutal for United.
Real would be far less inclined to let Tchouameni go if Camavinga leaves. United’s hopes of landing the France international could effectively vanish with one decisive move from City. It is a familiar story at the top end of the market: one club’s opportunity becomes another’s dead end.
Barcola in demand as Arsenal and Liverpool circle
On the wings, another tug-of-war is forming.
Bradley Barcola is attracting serious attention from Arsenal and Liverpool, yet Paris Saint-Germain are not ready to step aside. Despite PSG’s expected activity in the attacking market, the French champions still see value in keeping the 21-year-old.
Liverpool have turned to Barcola after Yan Diomande chose PSG as his preferred destination if he leaves RB Leipzig this summer. With Ivory Coast now out of the World Cup, a decision on Diomande’s future is expected soon, and that will sharpen Liverpool’s focus on alternatives.
For Arsenal, Barcola is being viewed as a potential alternative to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. The timing of his form could hardly be better. He sent a pointed reminder of his quality earlier this week with a superb goal for France against Sweden, a strike that will only harden PSG’s stance and embolden his suitors.
Chelsea rebuffed in Chavarria chase
Chelsea’s attempts to reinforce at left-back have hit resistance in Spain.
Spanish radio station El Partidazo de COPE report that Rayo Vallecano have rejected an offer from the London club for Pep Chavarria. The La Liga side are even considering reporting Chelsea to FIFA, with president Martin Presa refusing to enter negotiations.
Chavarria has a €50m (£42.3m) release clause, and Presa is adamant there have been no talks with Chelsea. If the Blues want him, they may have to pay the clause in full or walk away. There is no appetite at Rayo to be squeezed into a compromise.
Tottenham rip up the script with £223.5m week
While others haggle and posture, Tottenham have detonated one of the most dramatic weeks of business in recent Premier League memory: two major arrivals agreed and one marquee sale, worth a guaranteed £223.5m.
The first move was an £85m agreement with West Ham United for Mateus Fernandes, a statement signing through the middle of the pitch. Spurs then sanctioned the sale of highly rated defender Luka Vuskovic to Brighton in a £50m deal, with £46m guaranteed and £4m in add-ons.
That outgoing proved crucial. The funds unlocked the final push to meet Newcastle United’s £100m valuation of Sandro Tonali. Tottenham have agreed a package worth £92.5m guaranteed, with a further £7.5m tied to Champions League bonuses.
One week, three heavyweight deals, and a clear signal from north London: Tottenham are no longer content to lurk on the fringes of the elite market. The question now is simple – has this spending spree built a squad ready to justify those numbers on the pitch?
