Newcastle Ends Ramsdale Loan as Goalkeeper Search Begins
Newcastle have drawn a firm line under Aaron Ramsdale’s brief Tyneside chapter. Eddie Howe will not turn the goalkeeper’s loan into a permanent move and has instead made a new No1 one of the pillars of his summer rebuild.
Ramsdale, borrowed from Southampton for the season, played 23 times but never fully nailed down the shirt or the manager’s trust. The verdict is clear: Newcastle want a different profile to anchor the next phase of their project.
Bart Verbruggen of Brighton, Manchester City’s James Trafford and Stade de Reims’ Ewen Jaouen sit high on Howe’s shortlist. Three young goalkeepers, three very different pathways, but one shared theme – Newcastle are planning long term between the posts.
Silva’s emotional farewell to Fulham
Across west London, Marco Silva has left Fulham with a note that reads like a love letter.
“To our fans – I asked you, from day one, to always be with us. And that’s what you did these past five years. We achieved a lot together,” he wrote, before underlining how deeply he and his staff felt the backing from the stands.
Silva’s tenure changed the club’s trajectory. He delivered Fulham’s first league title in 21 years, dragged them out of yo-yo territory and planted them firmly back in the Premier League. The 2022-23 season brought a top-half finish and a landmark: a first win over Chelsea in 17 years. Three more mid-table campaigns followed, steady rather than spectacular, but crucial for a club that had twice fallen straight back down after promotion.
He leaves with a promise that Fulham “will always be in my heart” and a teasing line for the future: sooner or later, he expects to be back at Craven Cottage.
Glasner bows out at Palace as a European winner
Oliver Glasner’s own farewell letter to Crystal Palace supporters comes with a different backdrop: a European trophy.
The Austrian departs after winning the Conference League and used his message to highlight what Selhurst Park has become under his watch – a cauldron. “The emotion, the intensity, the noise,” he wrote, were the fuel for a side that learned to push back against the elite.
He spoke of a mindset shift: Palace now believe they can fight the best, at home and across the continent. The final in Leipzig, he said, was the perfect ending, a snapshot of a team that “refuses to give in and backs each other every step of the way”.
Glasner walks away knowing he leaves them with European nights to come in the Europa League, and a fanbase that now expects Palace to stand tall, not simply survive.
Cucurella tug-of-war brewing
Marc Cucurella’s Chelsea story may be heading for another twist. The Spaniard is understood to be open to a move, and Atletico Madrid have emerged as serious suitors.
Talksport’s Ben Jacobs reports that Atleti want to pay under £43m. Chelsea, though, are said to value him at around £61m – a figure that would just about edge them into profit on the £56m they handed Brighton in 2022.
Chelsea hold the cards. Cucurella has three years left on his deal, and the club see no need to rush into a discount sale. Talks are expected in the coming weeks, but the gap between what Atleti want and what Chelsea believe they can command is sizeable.
The plot thickens. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City are also said to be monitoring the situation. Cucurella was close to City before Chelsea swooped two years ago, and he is known to have been a big admirer of Enzo Maresca during their time together. A full-circle move cannot be ruled out, but any buyer will have to pay.
Hackney on Premier League radar
Hayden Hackney looks set to be the next Middlesbrough talent to step up to the Premier League stage.
Jacobs reports that Boro are “braced” for bids, with Crystal Palace and Tottenham both circling. Everton are also understood to be heavily interested, and Manchester United have made calls, though nothing is moving quickly there. RB Leipzig have asked the question as well.
Boro’s failure to secure promotion has changed the landscape. Hackney is now “expected” to leave this summer, with the Championship club preparing for a serious fight to keep their midfield hub.
Konate edges towards Real Madrid
In Spain, Real Madrid are lining up their next defensive pillar. Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate is close to an agreement with the European champions, according to the Telegraph.
Madrid’s interest dates back to last summer and the Bernabeu is now reported to be Konate’s preferred destination. A deal looks more likely if Florentino Perez is re-elected as president, and the Frenchman could become the first signing of a second Jose Mourinho era in Madrid.
Southampton stand by Eckert
Few decisions will divide a fanbase like this one. Despite the “spygate” controversy and Southampton’s historic expulsion from the play-offs, club chiefs have chosen to stick with head coach Tonda Eckert.
In an eight-minute video, the 33-year-old pleaded for “forgiveness” from supporters. His actions, the club accept, may have cost them a shot at a £215m Premier League jackpot.
Yet Serbian owner Dragan Solak has vowed to back him. The message is stark: Eckert stays, and Southampton will live – or fall – by that call.
Bayern turn to Saibari after Gordon blow
Bayern Munich have had to rip up Plan A on the wing. With Anthony Gordon heading to Barcelona, the German champions have opened talks with PSV over Ismael Saibari.
Fabrizio Romano reports that discussions between the clubs are already underway, with the player’s side relaxed and waiting on PSV’s price. Vincent Kompany has approved the move.
Saibari arrives off the back of a devastating Eredivisie campaign: 23 goal contributions in 28 league games and the Player of the Year award. Bayern know exactly what they’re buying – end product.
Tottenham still alive in Palhinha chase
Tottenham may have let their bargain window close, but the Joao Palhinha story is not over.
Spurs declined to trigger their option to sign the Bayern Munich midfielder permanently for just under £26m before the June 1 deadline. Even so, SunSport understands they remain keen and are considering a fresh move for the 30-year-old.
The price will now be higher and the competition fiercer, yet Tottenham’s interest has not cooled. Palhinha’s future, once seemingly tied to north London at a cut rate, is back in play.
Bournemouth brace Rayan with huge clause
Down on the south coast, Bournemouth are quietly locking down one of the Premier League’s most intriguing young forwards.
Brazilian winger Rayan is set to have a staggering £130m release clause written into his contract, according to The Athletic. The clause only kicks in from January next year, so any club moving before then would negotiate freely – but once it’s active, the Cherries will be protected.
Rayan, 19, arrived from Vasco da Gama in January for around £24.7m and wasted little time, posting seven goal contributions in 15 league games. Next season he will step into European football for the first time as Bournemouth head into the Europa League under new manager Marco Rose.
Juventus push to keep Kolo Muani
Randal Kolo Muani’s career has taken another sharp turn. The former Spurs winger, who endured a poor season in north London and missed out on France’s World Cup squad, spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Juventus.
Sky Sports report that Juve are now in talks to keep him. He has returned to Paris Saint-Germain, back-to-back European champions, but is not thought to be wanted in Paris. Juventus see an opportunity and are moving to seize it.
Chelsea’s striker puzzle
Chelsea’s forward line is heading for a shake-up. The club are prepared to reintegrate Nicolas Jackson into Xabi Alonso’s squad after his loan spell at Bayern Munich, according to The Athletic. At the same time, they are expected to sell at least one striker – but the identity of the departure is still unclear.
Joao Pedro is not on the market. That leaves Jackson and Liam Delap as the likeliest candidates if Chelsea decide they must cash in. Young Spanish forward Marc Guiu is another piece of the puzzle: the preference is a loan, but a permanent sale is not off the table.
Liverpool agreement in place with Iraola
On Merseyside, Liverpool’s managerial succession plan has accelerated.
Despite talk of ongoing discussions, Romano reports there is already an agreement in principle with Andoni Iraola. His trademark “Here we go” has been delivered, with negotiations said to have advanced rapidly over the last 48 hours.
A deal is in place. With Arne Slot heading out, Liverpool have moved quickly to lock in their next man.
Spurs eye Van Hecke if Romero goes
Tottenham’s summer could hinge on one decision: Cristian Romero’s future.
The Athletic report that Spurs will target Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke if their captain leaves. Romano has already suggested there are “serious” chances Romero departs and that the Argentine is open to an exit.
Van Hecke, schooled under Roberto De Zerbi, fits the profile Tottenham want – aggressive, front-foot, comfortable in possession. If Romero walks, Spurs have their replacement lined up.
Hackney chase intensifies
Hayden Hackney’s name is popping up everywhere for a reason. With Middlesbrough stuck in the Championship, Premier League clubs sense an opening.
Everton are thought to be leading the race, with Tottenham and Crystal Palace firmly in the mix. Manchester United admire him but have other priorities higher up their shortlist. For Boro, this could be the summer they cash in on one of their brightest academy products.
Bellamy chooses Wales over club game
Craig Bellamy has made his choice, and it is a clear one: country over club.
The Wales boss revealed he turned down approaches to stay in charge of the national team. Burnley, where he served as Vincent Kompany’s assistant, were linked, as were Celtic. Neither offer swayed him.
“Everything’s in place, I get completely backed and it’s going to give me the opportunity in the next two years to improve again,” he said. Bellamy admitted he is ambitious and wants to “earn loads and loads of money”, but insists this is not the moment to walk away from the project that gave him his first managerial chance.
Tottenham track Dominguez
Back to north London, and Tottenham’s recruitment team are also looking to Serie A.
Reports in Spain say Spurs are battling Lazio for centre-back Sergi Dominguez. The 21-year-old left Barcelona last summer and has just 12 months remaining on his contract. Lazio have already tested the water with a bid of under £3m.
Tottenham, if they step in, will almost certainly have to pay more. The lure is obvious: a young defender with Barcelona schooling, available at a price that could look like a steal in a year’s time.
Palace move for Sage
Crystal Palace, fresh from Glasner’s departure, are closing in on their next man.
The club have held talks with Lens boss Pierre Sage, who is now believed to be their top target after Iraola moved towards Liverpool. Sage will cost compensation, but Palace are ready to push ahead with a two-year deal, according to reports in France.
There is no agreement yet. The direction of travel, though, is unmistakable. Palace, like so many clubs in this restless summer, are already reshaping the next chapter.
