Kim Min-jae: Manchester United Eye Bayern Munich Defender
Kim Min-jae has emerged as a live option for Manchester United’s defence, but the Premier League club are playing catch-up in a race Juventus currently control.
According to Bild football chief Christian Falk, United have added the Bayern Munich centre-back to their list of targets as they continue to explore ways to reinforce a back line that has looked fragile for too long. Kim, 29, fits the profile: experienced at the highest level, comfortable on the ball, and proven in both Serie A and the Bundesliga.
Juventus, though, are already out in front. Reports in La Gazzetta dello Sport state that the South Korean international has given the green light to a move to Turin, where a familiar face awaits. A switch to Juve would reunite him with Luciano Spalletti, under whom Kim produced a dominant season at Napoli and helped drive the club to the Serie A title before his move to Bayern.
That connection matters. Spalletti knows exactly how to use Kim’s aggression, timing and recovery pace, and Juventus see him as a cornerstone for a defensive rebuild. The Italian side have moved early and decisively, and for now they hold the advantage.
Manchester United, by contrast, are in a watching brief. If Juventus fail to close the deal or negotiations stall, United are prepared to step in and open talks with Bayern over a transfer. Their interest is real, but conditional on the Italian route breaking down.
There is another complication. A departure from the German champions is not a foregone conclusion. Kim is described as content with his current status in Munich, where he has accepted a role as a squad player in a fiercely competitive defensive unit. Bayern, still chasing trophies on multiple fronts every season, value depth and experience, and are under no pressure to sell.
So the picture is clear. Juventus lead, United lurk, and Bayern hold the cards. The next move belongs to Turin – and to Kim Min-jae himself.
