Inter Milan Push for Curtis Jones Amid Liverpool Changes
Liverpool are braced for another defining week in a summer that already feels like a turning point.
Inter Milan have set a clear deadline in their pursuit of Curtis Jones, pushing to have the midfielder in place and “available in Germany starting July 16th” as they look to close a deal before pre-season plans fully kick in.
Inter turn the screw over Curtis Jones
Jones has already given the green light to a move to Inter, as revealed earlier this month, with the Italian champions targeting a fee in the region of €20m. That figure, though, falls well short of Liverpool’s valuation.
Inside Anfield, the stance is firm. Liverpool want closer to €30m for the 23-year-old and are also seeking a percentage of any future resale. Inter, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, remain confident they can eventually bridge the gap, but for now the two clubs are some distance apart.
The pressure is on the Italian side. Their squad is already heavy, “stuck with around 20 players,” and they are relying on Jones’ desire to make the move and the leverage of his contract situation, with only a year left on his deal, to push Liverpool towards compromise.
Inter’s new coach Cristian Chivu is preparing to start his training camp with the bulk of his group in place, minus six players away at the World Cup – Manuel Akanji, Hakan Calhanoglu, Luka Sucic, Bonny, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. The plan is clear: blend the “old” guard with the new arrivals as quickly as possible. Inter want Jones in that second group. Liverpool are making them pay to make it happen.
For Liverpool, the Jones saga unfolds against a backdrop of significant change. Ibrahima Konate has already departed on a free to Real Madrid, Andy Robertson has done the same to Tottenham, and Mohamed Salah is expected to leave for Saudi Arabia or another destination after publicly confirming his intention to move on earlier this year. Alexis Mac Allister and other key names have also been linked with exits.
Every outgoing now has a double edge: it reshapes the dressing room and helps fund the rebuild. That is why Liverpool are holding their line on Jones.
Ayari keeps his head in the “World Cup bubble”
While Inter push hard for Jones, another midfield name linked with Liverpool is keeping his distance from the noise.
Brighton’s Yasin Ayari has emerged as a reported target after impressing for Sweden in their opening match of the tournament. His performances have drawn attention, his name has been floated around Anfield, but the 21-year-old insists he is shutting all of that out.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Ayari said: “I’m in the World Cup bubble, as they say. I don’t have a clue about anything. Everyone else is taking care of it for me. I’m just here and focusing on the World Cup.”
No flirting with the speculation. No hint of a push. Just a young midfielder intent on using the biggest stage to show what he can do, while others handle the noise in the background.
Back at club level, Brighton have already moved in a familiar direction, signing Zadok Yohanna from Ayari’s former side AIK Fotboll. Ayari is ready to play the older brother role when the teenager arrives on the south coast.
“It will be fun. I haven’t seen much of him in the Swedish league, but it will be fun to start and see how he goes,” Ayari said. “I will take care of him, but many people will take care of him. It’s a family club, so it should go well.”
As Brighton quietly shape their next midfield, Liverpool watch and weigh their options, caught between the need to cash in on assets like Jones and the need to replace the quality walking out of the door.
Inter have drawn their line in the calendar. Liverpool have drawn theirs in the sand. Which one moves first will say plenty about how this new era at Anfield is really going to be built.
