Herve Renard Sets Tunisia Exit Date After 2026 World Cup
Herve Renard has never been a man for half-measures, and he is treating his time with Tunisia no differently. The French coach has made it clear: his spell in charge of the Carthage Eagles will end with the 2026 World Cup.
Renard confirmed that his contract runs only through the tournament, with no agreement in place beyond June and no discussions under way to change that. This is a defined mission, not a long-term marriage.
“I’ve come for a World Cup mission,” he told ESPN on Monday. “I have not signed beyond that.”
Tunisia turned to Renard after a brutal low point: a 5-0 hammering by Belgium that cost Sabri Lamouchi his job. The federation responded by calling in a coach renowned for his ability to shock bigger nations on the biggest stages, hoping he could restore belief and edge.
The early signs have been harsh. Renard’s side fell to Japan on Saturday, a defeat that sealed their elimination after just two matches. Any hopes of a deep run vanished almost as quickly as they had been rebuilt.
Yet the parameters remain clear. Renard was hired to guide Tunisia through this World Cup cycle, to steady a shaken squad and give it a defined identity on the global stage. When the final whistle of their campaign blows in 2026, his tenure ends with it.
The question now is not whether he stays, but what kind of team he leaves behind.
