Florentino Pérez's Galáctico Ambition: The Push for Vitinha

Florentino Pérez is reaching for his favourite campaign weapon again: the promise of a galáctico.

On the eve of Sunday’s Real Madrid presidential election, the incumbent is reportedly preparing to drop a bombshell. Cadena SER claim that Vitinha, one of Paris Saint-Germain’s most influential players, has emerged as the headline name Pérez wants to place at the centre of his final push for re‑election.

A €150m statement of intent

Pérez has already set the stage. On Thursday evening he announced in an interview that he will soon table a €150 million bid for a “star” signing. He pointedly ruled out Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Michael Olise. That immediately narrowed the field and sent speculation into overdrive.

According to Spanish journalist Pacojo Delgado, the mystery target is Vitinha. The 24-year-old Portuguese midfielder, tied to PSG for another three years and central to their project, would not come cheap. A deal at the figures being discussed would place him among the most expensive signings in Real Madrid’s history and one of the boldest transfer plays of Pérez’s long reign.

The numbers match the message: this is not just about strengthening the squad. It is about winning an election.

“A knockout without even reaching Sunday”

Delgado did not hide the political weight such a move would carry. For him, Vitinha is the trump card.

“If Florentino wants to settle the elections, the announcement of Vitinha would be the final blow. A knockout without even reaching Sunday,” he said, underlining how a marquee signing can still sway socios in a way no manifesto ever will.

The journalist also pointed to a familiar power broker in the background: Jorge Mendes. The agent’s long-standing ties with Real Madrid and José Mourinho give this story an extra layer. Mendes represents Vitinha and has been a key figure in many of the most complex operations involving Portuguese stars over the last two decades.

“Do you really think Jorge Mendes will not make his best player available to Jose Mourinho if it is possible?” Delgado added, hinting at an alignment of interests that could turn a difficult deal into a feasible one.

Mourinho’s project at the Bernabéu

Vitinha is not being viewed in isolation. His potential arrival is framed as part of a broader reconstruction under Mourinho, whose expected return to the Santiago Bernabéu sits at the heart of Pérez’s vision for the next cycle.

In that plan, Vitinha is seen as much more than a luxury signing. He is projected as the organising force of a revamped midfield, a Portuguese fulcrum around whom Mourinho could build a new spine. The idea is clear: marry Real Madrid’s institutional power with Mourinho’s authority and Mendes’ network, and reshape the team from the centre of the pitch outward.

The recruitment drive does not stop there. Reports suggest Madrid have already moved to secure Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer, a potentially shrewd reinforcement at the back. Denzel Dumfries is also expected to arrive after the club triggered his €20 million release clause, adding power and depth on the right flank.

Those deals sketch out a coherent project: younger, athletic, tailored to Mourinho’s demands. Vitinha, though, would be the emblem.

The PSG wall and the Mendes lever

There is, of course, one major obstacle: PSG. The French champions still consider Vitinha a key figure and have him under contract until 2027. They are under no pressure to sell, and they rarely bow easily in the market, especially when a European rival comes calling.

Any agreement would demand not just the €150m financial muscle Pérez is prepared to flex, but also a delicate negotiation with a club that has grown accustomed to dictating terms. This is where Mendes’ influence becomes decisive. His relationship with PSG, Mourinho and Real Madrid places him at the centre of any potential breakthrough.

For Pérez, the calculation is simple but ruthless. Announce Vitinha, and the election narrative changes in an instant. The promise of a €150m midfield leader, aligned with Mourinho’s return and backed by a refreshed supporting cast, would send a message that stretches far beyond Sunday’s vote.

If the deal goes through, it will not just reshape Real Madrid’s midfield. It will confirm, once again, that in the politics of the Bernabéu, nothing speaks louder than the promise of the next superstar.
