Diego Simeone's Firm Stance on Julian Alvarez Transfer
Diego Simeone has made up his mind.
According to Diario Sport, the Atletico Madrid coach no longer sees a way back for Julian Alvarez after the forward’s public request for a transfer during World Cup 2026. For Simeone, the line has been crossed: once a player openly pushes for the exit, there is no room for half-measures.
Atletico, though, find themselves in an uncomfortable position. They do not want to strengthen Barcelona, yet the Catalan club sits at the front of the queue. Barca are expected to return with a new offer in the wake of Alvarez’s latest statements, but it is unclear whether they will climb towards the €150 million figure being spoken about around the deal.
Simeone’s stance is blunt. As reported, he is “not going to invest time or energy in trying to convince the player” to stay. He wants a dressing room fully aligned with his demands, a squad built on absolute commitment. If Alvarez’s heart is elsewhere, Simeone believes the solution is simple: let him go.
The market around the Argentina international reflects his stature. Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are both credited with serious interest, clubs with the financial muscle and sporting profile to compete for a forward of his level. Yet the same reports are clear on one key point: Alvarez is fixated on Barcelona. For now, he is not entertaining other options.
So the standoff hardens. Atletico hesitate to sell to a direct rival. Simeone refuses to bend on his principles. Barcelona watch and wait, weighing how far they are willing to push their bid.
Somewhere in the middle stands Alvarez, already looking towards Camp Nou while his current club decides how high a price to put on a player whose future, in Simeone’s eyes, no longer lies in Madrid.
