Deniz Undav Signs New Contract with VfB Stuttgart Until 2029

Deniz Undav has tied his future to VfB Stuttgart, signing a new contract that runs until 2029 and includes an option for a further year – a statement of intent from both club and player at the peak of his powers.

The 29-year-old Germany international has grown from clever loan signing to cornerstone of Sebastian Hoeneß’s project since arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2023. Stuttgart took him on an initial loan; he has since become the face of their resurgence.

The numbers tell part of the story. In 86 Bundesliga appearances for VfB, Undav has scored 46 goals and supplied 18 assists, production that puts him firmly among the league’s elite forwards. He scores, he links play, he drags defenders into places they don’t want to go. Stuttgart’s attack has been built around his timing and touch.

Undav made no attempt to hide what the new deal means to him. He spoke of being “over the moon” to continue his career in Stuttgart, describing the contract extension as something that “means so much” and calling the club and city his “second home” after three years in Swabia. The welcome for his family, the warmth from the stands – all of it, he said, has made him eager to spend “many more years as part of the VfB family” and to chase “lots more success.”

Inside the club, they see the same thing the rest of Germany now does: a late-blooming striker who has turned himself into an international. Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB’s board member for sport, called the new agreement “an absolute winner” for both sides and pointed directly at Undav’s impact on Stuttgart’s rise.

Since his arrival, VfB have finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, lifted the DFB Cup and secured a return to the Champions League. None of those achievements came with Undav on the periphery; his goals and presence have been central to the transformation. Wohlgemuth underlined that in Stuttgart, Undav has become a Germany international with a World Cup looming on the horizon.

World Cup Selection

That horizon is now close. Julian Nagelsmann has named Undav in his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA, and the forward is expected to play a key role. Stuttgart will watch that tournament with a different kind of pride: their No. 9 carrying club form onto the biggest stage, his future at the Mercedes-Benz Arena already secured.

For Undav, the path is clear. The contract gives him stability, the Champions League offers a bigger platform, and the World Cup presents the ultimate test. Stuttgart have bet on their talisman through 2029. The question now is how far he can drag them – and his country – in the years to come.
