Bayern Munich's Firm Stance on Michael Olise Amid Real Madrid Interest
Florentino Pérez has his blockbuster target lined up. Michael Olise is not that man.
While the Real Madrid president talks openly about a €150 million move for a “superstar on a par with Cristiano Ronaldo”, Bayern Munich are calmly locking the doors in Munich and throwing away the key where Olise is concerned.
Bayern slam the door
The first warning shot came in April. Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl was asked, again, about interest in Olise. His answer was blunt enough to echo around Europe.
“No, quite simply: no. We have a long-term project, and Michael is happy here.”
There was no softening of the stance, no hint of negotiation. Bayern see Olise as a pillar, not a trading chip. The Frenchman’s contract at Säbener Straße runs until 2029 and, crucially for the German champions, is “firmly secured for the long term”. Those close to the player insist he is not agitating for a move, least of all to Madrid.
The message from Munich is clear: look elsewhere.
No escape hatch
Rumours of a release clause have swirled since the day Olise arrived from Crystal Palace for €53 million. A player that productive, that quickly, always triggers speculation. But Eberl moved to crush the narrative last October.
In an interview with 11Freunde, when asked whether Bayern were slipping behind their rivals in the transfer market, he used Olise as his counter-argument.
“What I feel is being overlooked in this discussion is that, in Michael Olise, we have signed a professional from Crystal Palace who has a contract with us until 2029 – without a release clause – and is on his way to becoming one of the world's best players.”
No clause. No shortcut. No easy way out for suitors.
Even so, the noise did not die. Speculation grew that the 24-year-old could still be bought out of his deal. When sporting director Christopher Freund was pressed on the matter at the end of August, he chose to keep the veil in place.
“As a matter of principle, we never discuss the contents of contracts,” he said.
Publicly, Bayern refuse to play the game. Privately, the stance is even stronger: Olise is central to their project.
Pérez looks elsewhere
In Madrid, the narrative is very different. Pérez has already laid out his summer blueprint: a record-breaking move for a superstar forward. He has spoken of an “urgent priority”, a deal that “would deliver the biggest transfer in Madrid's history. At least €150 million.”
“On Tuesday, I will table a substantial offer to a leading Champions League club for a player who would deliver the biggest transfer in Madrid's history. At least €150 million,” Pérez declared.
The hunt is on, the money is ready, the stage is set. But Olise is not in the frame.
Pérez has already dismissed rival presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme’s claim that a deal for a star striker is already done. He has also been categorical about who will not be coming to the Bernabéu. While Real pursue Erling Haaland, Pérez has ruled out moves for Olise, Jeremy Doku and Harry Kane. Any raid on FC Barcelona is off the table as well.
For all the outside chatter, the man at the top of Madrid’s pyramid has drawn his own red lines. Olise is on the wrong side of them.
Bayern’s new jewel
That suits Bayern just fine. Olise has been nothing short of transformative since landing in Munich. Signed for €53 million from Crystal Palace in the summer, he was the only new arrival to make an immediate, sustained impact.
The numbers are brutal: 22 goals and 31 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Output that belongs to a fully formed star, not a player still labelled as “on his way” to the top.
In a season where several big names needed time to adjust or simply failed to convince, Olise hit the ground sprinting. His performances have given Bayern exactly what they want: production now and the promise of a frightening ceiling later.
So while Madrid prepare a record-breaking bid for someone else, Bayern watch the speculation swirl around their winger with a certain calm. The contract runs to 2029. There is no release clause. The player is settled. The club is emphatic.
Real Madrid are chasing a new Cristiano. Bayern believe they already have a future world-beater – and they have no intention of letting him go.
