Arsenal Leads Race for Leicester's Jeremy Monga
Arsenal have surged ahead in the race to sign Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, with the 16-year-old understood to favour a move to the Premier League champions over rival interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
The highly rated wide player has been on the radar of all three clubs during this summer window, but the London side are now pushing to close a deal after the player indicated he would agree to the switch. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that Arsenal have stepped up their efforts, sensing an opportunity to land one of the most talked‑about teenagers in the country.
Chelsea watched him. United tracked him. Arsenal, though, look ready to act.
For Leicester, the timing could hardly be worse. Fresh from relegation from the Championship, the Foxes now face the prospect of losing one of the brightest prospects from their academy just as they attempt to rebuild. Monga had already agreed a professional contract with the club, which comes into effect when he turns 17 on July 10, a detail that crucially allows Leicester to command a transfer fee rather than lose him for minimal compensation.
That agreement gives Leicester some leverage, but not control. Once the contract activates, they can negotiate from a position of at least partial strength, yet the player’s preference for Arsenal tilts the power towards north London.
At 16, Monga is still unproven at senior level, but the scramble for his signature underlines how aggressively England’s elite are now moving for emerging talent. Arsenal’s pursuit, if completed, would be another statement that they intend to secure tomorrow’s stars before they explode on a bigger stage.
Leicester, meanwhile, must decide how hard to hold the line on a teenager who may never pull on their first-team shirt.
